Scholarship eligibility
Undergraduate degrees
- The applicant must be a family or friend of SAEF Benefactor, Douglas and Sandy Tashiro.
- The applicant must seek to obtain undergraduate degree, trade certification, or associate’s degree.
Advanced degrees
The primary mission of the Shig Akagi Education Fund is to provide an opportunity for all family members to obtain an undergraduate degree, whereby, providing the applicant a “jump-start” to their career. By providing tuition, fees, books, room and board – this allows each student to concentrate on their studies versus finding a balance between attending school, working to support themselves and paying for school. That said, applications for advanced degrees will be considered with the following criteria:
- Must have worked at least two years following completion of an undergraduate degree.
- Submit an Essay and Application to the Administrator. See below for forms and instructions.
- AWARDED SCHOLARSHIP $ FOR ADVANCED DEGREES WILL BE LIMITED. For the SAEF to provide for its primary mission as stated above, any advanced degree scholarships that are awarded will be a small portion of the total cost. Scholarships will be used toward tuition only. No room & board will be included.
- Student responsibilities remain the same including submitting final grades each session.

Dual enrollment
Students who choose to participate in Dual Enrollment and incur tuition costs may be reimbursed. The Dual Enrollment Form includes information, SAEF policy, and instructions on how to be reimbursed.

Application for the Shig Akagi Education Fund scholarship program consists of the three parts listed below. Detailed instructions are included on the Essay and Application for Scholarship forms.

Email a transcript to Gayle Tanaka, the SAEF Administrator, at gtanaka@cox.net.
Completing the form
All three documents have specific “Due Dates” included in the detailed instructions. Late submission may cause approval process and financial payments to be delayed. All three documents must be submitted for the approval process to be completed.

Submitting your application
Submit the three required documents via email by the specified due dates to the Administrator at the above email address.
The applicant will be notified by letter via email whether application has been approved.
